What’s in the bag ↓

What’s in the bag

Numbered in the order you’ll use them. One system in four parts. The Playbook holds the judgment, the Workbook is the only thing that returns a verdict, and the Kit is what you actually send to a client.

00Start Here & The One Offer

PDF · 11 pages

Why the boundary is whether a shoot can be repeated rather than what you photograph, the five offers this bag supports and why you launch with one, the cold-start problem stated correctly, the gate before you charge, and what is deliberately outside this bag.

  • 00-Start-Here-and-The-One-Offer.pdf

01The Photography Business Playbook

PDF · 27 pages

The durable core across 12 chapters: choosing one offer, proving it, the kit that earns its place, pricing the whole job, inquiry to booking, files and backup, what the client is actually buying, delivery promises as your choices, getting found, reading your own record, and how to re-verify every dated fact yourself.

  • 01-The-Photography-Business-Playbook.pdf

02The Job Workbook

Excel / Google Sheets · 6 connected tabs

The decision spine: one offer and every dated rate in one place, the gate that says whether you may charge yet, a quote screen that prices the whole job against your own floor, one row per job with estimate against actual, and the calibration that says what has been earned.

  • 02-The-Job-Workbook.xlsx

03The Client Kit

Word / Google Docs · 7 documents

The things you send: inquiry and scoping questions, the quote, an agreement covering scope, delivery and rights, a model release, a shoot-day checklist, the delivery message, and the follow-up that asks for the next job.

A closer look inside

Pages and spreadsheet views from the files you download, not mockups. Open any one to read it.

What you’ll be able to do

Each one names the file that does it.

  • Pick one offer, and know why you are picking it

Five are supported: headshots, personal brand and small business, product, ground-based property and listings, and portraits, family and senior. You launch with one, because your proof has to show the thing you are asking to be paid for.

00 · Start Here & The One Offer

  • Find out whether you may charge yet

A gate that answers not yet or ready to charge, and names the specific missing item. One of them has no workaround: a copy of every file somewhere that is not the card.

    02 · The Job Workbook

  • Price the whole job, not the shoot

Ten time components, travel, costs, fees and an allowance for the jobs that need redoing, then what you actually earn per hour, measured against a floor you set before anyone asked.

    02 · The Job Workbook

  • Know what the client is actually buying

Under US copyright law you own the photographs you create; what the client gets is a license you define. Ownership moves only if you sign it away, and a purchase order saying “work for hire” almost certainly does not do what they think.

01 · The Photography Business Playbook

  • Run a job the same way every time

Inquiry questions, a quote, an agreement, a release where the use needs one, a shoot-day checklist, a delivery message and a follow-up: the documents you actually send, ready to fill in.

    03 · The Client Kit

  • Learn what to do next from your own jobs

What you really earn per hour, where the time goes, which inquiry sources become bookings, and evidence-backed verdicts on whether you have earned a gear upgrade, a price rise or a second offer.

    02 · The Job Workbook

Who it’s for

  • You can already take a competent photograph and you want to get paid for it
  • You are being asked to shoot things for free and cannot tell which of those requests is a business
  • You have a portfolio that proves you are versatile, and no idea why it is not converting
  • You have quoted a price and then discovered how long the job actually took
  • You want to know when you have earned better equipment, rather than guessing

Who it’s not for

  • You want to shoot weddings, ceremonies or live events. Those jobs happen once, which changes the whole setup. This bag does not teach them and says so on its first pages
  • You want to learn photography. This assumes you can already take the picture; the business around it is the part that is missing
  • You want aerial or drone work. Flying for work is a certificated activity, and it is outside this bag
  • You want to be told which camera to buy. No model or brand is named anywhere in here, on purpose
  • You want newborn or infant sessions. Handling a baby safely is a specialization of its own and this bag does not teach it; the portraits, family and senior offer here does not include newborns
  • You want a price list, an editing course, a presets pack or a social-media growth plan

Six phases. One gate.

The gate sits before you charge anyone: proof of the offer you are selling, the kit that delivers it, the documents, and a copy of every file somewhere that is not the memory card.

Read 00 · Start Here, then Chapters 1 to 5 of the Playbook before you quote anyone. Everything after that is used while running jobs rather than read.

  1. Choose the one offer you are going to sell

One named offer with a deliverable you can describe in a sentence: not a genre, and not five at once.

    Start Here (00) · Playbook ch. 1–2 · Workbook (02) Your Offer & Rules
  2. Earn the right to charge

Proof of that specific offer, the kit that delivers it, the documents, and a second copy of every file, or a verdict naming what is still missing.

Playbook ch. 3–4 · Workbook (02) Ready to Charge
    Before you accept money
  3. Price it from your own numbers

A price built from the whole job rather than the shoot, measured against a floor you set before anyone asked.

    Playbook ch. 5 · Workbook (02) Quote & Scope
  4. Turn an inquiry into a booked job

Scope agreed in writing, rights stated, a release where the use needs one, deposit taken and the date held.

Playbook ch. 6, 8 · Kit (03) inquiry, quote, agreement
  5. Run the job so the work cannot be lost

Shot, backed up to three copies before the card is cleared, culled, edited, and delivered on the date you promised.

    Playbook ch. 7, 9 · Workbook (02) Job Log · Kit (03) delivery
  6. Find out what it actually earned, and what that permits

Effective earnings per real hour, which inquiry sources become bookings, and evidence-backed verdicts on gear, price and a second offer.

    Playbook ch. 10–11 · Workbook (02) Review & Calibrate

What it doesn’t do

  • No weddings, ceremonies or live events. Those jobs happen once, and that changes the equipment, the contracts, the logistics and the consequences of a mistake. The bag says so on its first pages and will not tell you what such work requires, because it did not research that
  • No aerial or drone work: flying for work is a certificated activity
  • No newborn or infant sessions. A handling and safety specialization, and outside this bag
  • No camera, lens or software named by brand or model, anywhere
  • No prices, rate cards or earnings figures. Every published photography price found was somebody’s marketing, so you get a method instead
  • No editing-time or turnaround benchmarks. The published ones are sold by companies selling editing software and disagree with each other threefold
  • Not a photography course, an editing course, a posing guide or a social-media growth plan
  • Not legal, tax or insurance advice. The questions, the triggers and when to go and ask somebody qualified

How it was made

  • The copyright framework was read at source from the statute (ownership, transfer, work made for hire and the registration provision), with each rule quoted and dated.
  • The drone boundary comes from the regulation itself rather than from a summary, because two agency pages refused to be read and nothing is stated on their authority.
  • The backup standard is the one the federal government publishes for small businesses, which came out of photography in the first place and was adopted by everyone else afterward.
  • The workbook was tested against 72 independently computed scenarios, including proof that the same job at the same price falls below the photographer’s own floor once editing and admin are counted honestly.

More on the process: how a LaunchBag is made.

Before you buy

The questions people ask about this bag. More on the support page.

Does this cover weddings?

No, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. Weddings, ceremonies and live events happen once. If a card fails or you are ill that morning there is no second attempt, and that single difference changes the equipment, the contracts, the logistics and the consequences of a mistake enough that they are a different business to set up. The bag says this on its first pages, and it will not tell you what such work requires because it did not research that. If wedding photography is your goal, this is not the right system for that business.

Will it teach me photography?

No. It assumes you can already take a competent photograph and be trusted with a camera in front of a stranger. There is more free instruction on exposure, lighting and editing than anyone could work through in a year. What is missing is how to run the business around it without turning into either a legal handbook or a gear channel.

Why does it insist I only launch one offer?

Because your proof has to show the specific thing you are asking to be paid for. Somebody buying headshots is not reassured by a photograph of a mountain, however good. Five offers are supported so you can choose properly (headshots, personal brand and small business, product, ground-based property and listings, and portraits, family and senior), and the workbook tells you from your own jobs when a second one has been earned.

What camera do I need?

No model or brand appears anywhere in this bag, on purpose. The specification that matters is whether it can produce the deliverable you promised, and only you can answer that. What the bag does instead is separate what you need before the first paid job from what a paid job has to prove you need: a refused booking, a repeated bottleneck, a failure that cost a deliverable, or rentals that have cost more than buying.

Does it tell me what to charge?

It tells you how to work it out, which is more useful and considerably more defensible. Every published photography price found while researching this was published by somebody selling something. The workbook prices the whole job (inquiry, planning, travel, setup, the shoot, backup, culling, editing, delivery and admin) and shows you what you actually earn per hour against a floor you set yourself.

What do I actually get?

An instant download with four files: two guides, a six-tab workbook that opens in Excel or Google Sheets, and an editable document set for Word or Google Docs.
